You can mute tabs. You read that right. Say you are watching a YouTube video, you switch tabs in Chrome but you want to mute the sound from the video. You can click the speaker icon on the tab that has sound to mute the music or video playback sound.

It saves time. You no longer need to mute your entire laptop. Hence, it is a useful feature. But, you have to turn it on. Here's how to enable the tab mute on Chrome. The name of the feature is Tab audio muting UI control.

How To Mute Browser Tabs

  • Firstly, open Chrome.
  • Then, type chrome://flags in the address bar.
  • Hit enter.
  • In the interface that pops up, use the search feature and type Tab audio muting UI control. Or just type mute.
  • Then, click the drop-down box or toggle near the feature to enable it.
  • Lastly, click Restart or Relaunch to apply the changes.

Now, whenever you want to mute a tab that has audio, simply click the little speaker icon on that tab. Alternatively, you can right-click the tab and choose mute site or mute tab from the menu.
