It saves time. You no longer need to mute your entire laptop. Hence, it is a useful feature. But, you have to turn it on. Here's how to enable the tab mute on Chrome. The name of the feature is Tab audio muting UI control.
How To Mute Browser Tabs
- Firstly, open Chrome.
- Then, type chrome://flags in the address bar.
- Hit enter.
- In the interface that pops up, use the search feature and type Tab audio muting UI control. Or just type mute.
- Then, click the drop-down box or toggle near the feature to enable it.
- Lastly, click Restart or Relaunch to apply the changes.
A quicker way to access the feature is through this quick link chrome://flags/#enable-tab-audio-muting. However, the name may change. Hence, using the previous method is best.
Now, whenever you want to mute a tab that has audio, simply click the little speaker icon on that tab. Alternatively, you can right-click the tab and choose mute site or mute tab from the menu.
