Wiko Rainbow 4G

The Wiko Rainbow 4G is an Android smartphone with a 5 inches screen that offers HD Resolution up to 1,280 x 720 pixels. It is the successor of the Wiko Rainbow and this article provides a Wiko Rainbow 4G review as well as an overview of the features and specs.

Wiko Rainbow 4G

Display

The Wiko Rainbow 4G has a rather wide screen, which is not typical of smartphones in this price range, cheaper devices have more compact screens. However, the Wiko Rainbow 4G equips a 5 inches screen. A more than generous size that stays within the limits of its functionality. It is an IPS display, which improves color reproduction and with good views from all angles. The device is capable of HD resolution, up to 1,280 x 720 pixels, with  a pixel density of 293 dots per inch.

Design

The  Wiko Rainbow 4G has a simple, elegant design. The back cover is made of plastic. The Rainbow 4G has a cleaner and minimalist look given that the body runs into one (there is no separation between the sides, back and front). The front is covered with glass and the trademark around the screen has bee n adjusted a bit. The Wiko Rainbow 4G is not light by any standard. It weighs 174 grams, perhaps due to it being rather thick (10 mm). The device is available in white, black or turquoise.

Wiko Rainbow 4G

Camera

The Wiko Rainbow 4G has an 8 megapixels rear camera, a high enough resolution to see photos clearly on larger screens, such as a TV or a computer. You can also print them in an intermediate format and the videos are FullHD (1920 x 1080 pixels) quality.

The camera is accompanied by the usual features such as auto focus, face and smile detector, digital zoom and panoramic photos. Wiko also adds HDR mode an image editor with color effects and a Beauty Face featureAt the front there is another camera to make video conferencing or selfies. It has five megapixels, which is not bad for the secondary camera. Way more than the  2 megapixels on the Wiko Rainbow.

Wiko Rainbow 4G

Multimedia

The smartphone is capable of playing most file formats or common codecs, so you do not have problems when viewing a video, downloading a photo or opening a music track. It has a tuner: FM stereo and  3D sound. It also allows dictation  or voice recording and the multimedia player displays album art during playback.

Wiko Rainbow 4G

Power

Wiko installed a quad-core Cortex A7 processor, running at 1.3 GHz. It is a mid-range chip that offers  smooth performance on regular tasks, including handling multiple applications simultaneously. It is accompanied by 1 GB of (memory) RAM.

Storage/Memory

The  Wiko Rainbow 4G has a storage capacity of 8 GB (4 GB more than the predecessor). From this we must deduct the space required for the system and applications, which can be around 2 or 3 GB. This is not a very large capacity, but offers enough space to store enough data. It also has a slot for microSD slot with which we can expand the memory to 32 additional GB’s.

Wiko Rainbow 4G

Connectivity

As stated in the beginning, the connection is 4G and is one of the main advantages of  the Rainbow Wiko 4G. This system allows you to connect to the mobile network and enjoy up to 150 Mbps download speed.  If there aren’t any 4G netowrks around, it also connects to 3G networks, slower, all the way down to 21 Mbps but nonetheless still efficient for messaging apps and social media.

Also, you can access the Internet via WiFi, and save mobile data. It has the basic connections which are: GPS antenna, Bluetooth 4.0, one MicroUSB port and headphones jack.

Battery

The battery is not removable due to its mono-block design. It has a capacity of 2,500 milliamps, and according to data provided by Wiko, it can last 200 hours at rest (standby) and between 11 and 18 hours when in use, depending on the connection you’re using at the time.

Review

Wiko offers an interesting solution for users who want a complete mobile device with a 4G connection, but without having to over spend. For 160 euros, you have a phone with a 5-inch HD screen, quad core processor and two cameras, 8 and 5 megapixels. Furthermore, it connects to 4G networks and has a very attractive mono-block design.

Other Wiko Smartphones in the Rainbow line include: The Wiko Rainbow Up and Wiko Rainbow Jam.
