  • The Default profile on your PC might log in while upgrading to Windows 10 from an older version of Windows operating system. This error is occurring because Windows 10 is creating a new user profile by making use of files from the default profile.

Replace NTUSER.DAT File

  • Log in to the computer using a profile/account that works.
  • Using the file explorer, navigate to “C:UsersDefault.“
  • Just in case things go wrong, backup the “NTUSER.DAT” file by right-clicking it and selecting “Rename.“
  • Give the “NTUSER.DAT” file a name of “NTUSER.OLD“.
  • Back out to the Users folder. Find a profile like “Guest” or “Public” that may not have a corrupted NTUSER.DAT file, and copy it to the “Default” folder.
  • Log out of the computer and log in using the account you used when the error occurred.
