Alcatel OneTouch Pop Star

The Alcatel OneTouch Pop Star is a simple smartphone that takes personalization to the next level. And Alcatel will market this model with up to 20 different housings to suit the tastes of each person. Colorful cases covered with leather or even wood… The Alcatel OneTouch POP Star has a 5-inch 720p display, MediaTek MT6735P chipset with 1GB of RAM and 8GB of expandable storage. There is an 8 megapixel auto-focus camera on the back of the smartphone, as well as a 5 megapixel front camera. The phone is powered by 2000mAh battery and runs the Android Lollipop operating system.  Let’s have a look at all the features, photos and specs in this Alcatel OneTouch Pop Star review.

Design

The Alcatel OneTouch Pop Star smartphone uses of a square design with slightly rounded corners and has a metal frame to offer a more elegant touch. But the greatest aspect of the OneTouch Pop Star’s design is its casing. Specifically, there are twenty different interchangeable housings. Alcatel offers a very extensive collection with all types of options and colorful finishes that reflect wood, glass or even crocodile skin (not real croc skin of course) See also, the Alcatel OneTouch Go Play, which offers similar customization options. Apart from this addition, this model has dimensions of 141 x 71.5 x 8.6 mm. This is a very competitive thickness although not among the thinnest smartphones on the market.

Display

As for the Alcatel OneTouch Pop Star’s screen, it features a IPS HD panel with a resolution of 1,280 x 720 pixels and up to five simultaneous pressure points. This resolution gives an average pixel density of 293 dots per inch, allowing you to see good detail via different contents of the phone such as navigation apps or simple games. However, it is likely that the most demanding users will find it lacking a bit to watch videos and movies in high quality. The use of IPS panel technology allow for viewing angles up to 160 degrees. In addition, Alcatel emphasizes that the panel receives 75% less reflection of sunlight than traditional displays, which makes for good vision outdoors (during a sunny day).

Camera

With regard to the photographic section, the Alcatel OneTouch Pop Star has a decent set of cameras, but without much fanfare. At the rear, you have a camera of 8 megapixels with auto-focus and LED flash for improved photo quality in poor conditions, although far from other Alcatel Smartphones such as the Alcatel OneTouch Idol 3C. What does stand out is its optical video stabilization EIS with which you can record videos without shaky footage. Incidentally, the recording is done in high resolution 1080p. On the front, you have a camera with 5 megapixel resolution. This camera should serve to take selfies with good quality and to conduct videoconferencing via applications such as Hangouts or Skype.

Performance/Storage

Here we must make a distinction between the two configurations that Alcatel offers with regard to the OneTouch Pop Star. The OneTouch Pop Star sells in both 3G and 4G, while the 3G version includes a quad-core processor with 1.3 GHz per core, the 4G network compatible version also sports a quad-core processor but with a speed of 1 GHz per core. In both cases, these chips are combined with a RAM of 1 GB. This is a humble set, enough for basic use of the Android platform, but that may fall short when you open several applications at once. In terms of in the internal memory, the OneTouch Pop Star has 8 GB of internal storage. According to Alcatel, the capacity will be about 5 GB once you subtract the space used by the operating system and the preinstalled apps.

Operating System & Applications

The Alcatel OneTouch Pop Star features the latest version of the Google Android operating system,  Android 5.0 Lollipop. This platform offers a major face-lift with a more colorful and streamlined interface, which follows the concepts of a material design user interface. In addition, it improves aspects such as the notification system or device menus. But above all, the great attraction of this platform remains its huge apps store, with titles of all kinds as Candy Crush Saga, Facebook, Star Wars: Uprising, Twitter, Evernote and so on. As a result, it is easy to customize the smartphone to your liking with apps and games that prove most useful to you. In addition, we must also emphasize that you do have the conventional Google Applications like YouTubeGmail etc.

Connectivity

As we explained at the beginning, the OneTouch Pop Star will be available in two network configurations. One will only be compatible with 3G networks, while the second will also allow you to connect to high-speed 4G networks with up to 150 Mbps. As usual, the connections also includes WiFi, Bluetooth connectivity to sync with other compatible devices or GPS to navigate with Google Maps. Both uploading and sharing files with the computer are done via a MicroUSB port. There is also a mini-jack to connect your speakers and headphones. It is also compatible with the Alcatel Onetouch Go Watch (which is also highly customizeable).
